Airstream & RV Water Leak Repair Services

Water leaks are a major threat to the health and longevity of your RV or vintage trailer. Often starting small and unseen, water can silently cause significant damage if not addressed quickly and correctly. At American Vintage Trailers, we specialize in expert Water Leak Detection and Repair Services to protect your investment and stop damage in its tracks.

The Problem: Why RV Water Leaks Are So Dangerous

Even a minor leak can lead to major issues over time. Ignoring water intrusion allows damage to spread unseen.

  • Structural Damage: Water rots wood subfloors and framing. It corrodes metal frames and body panels. This weakens the entire structure of your trailer.
  • Mold and Mildew: Damp environments are breeding grounds for mold and mildew. These cause unhealthy air quality, unpleasant odors, and require expensive remediation.
  • Damaged Interiors: Water ruins insulation, wall panels, flooring, and interior finishes, requiring costly cosmetic and structural repairs.
  • Reduced Value: Undetected and unrepaired water damage significantly lowers the resale value of your RV or vintage trailer.

Our Solution: Expert Leak Detection & Repair

Stopping water damage requires finding the leak’s source and fixing it permanently. Our skilled team follows a comprehensive process.

  • Thorough Inspection: We meticulously inspect your RV or trailer. We check all common leak points: roof seals, windows, doors, body seams, vents, and fixtures.
  • Accurate Detection: We use proven techniques, including controlled water testing, to pinpoint the exact source of even the most elusive leaks. Finding the source is crucial for a lasting repair.
  • Comprehensive Repair: We don’t just patch the symptom; we fix the cause.
    • We carefully remove old, failed sealants and damaged materials around the leak source.
    • We clean the area thoroughly to prepare the surface.
    • We use high-quality, appropriate sealants compatible with your trailer’s specific materials (like aluminum or fiberglass). This ensures a durable, watertight seal that lasts.
    • We repair or replace components directly affected by the leak source if necessary.

If your RV has sustained major damage beyond simple leak sealing, explore our RV repair services for full structural restoration.

Frequently Asked Questions About RV & Camper Water Leaks and Repair

  • Question: How can I tell if my RV or camper has a water leak?
    • Answer: Common signs include visible water stains or discoloration on interior walls, ceilings, or floors; soft or spongy areas when pressing on walls or floors; a persistent musty or moldy odor; or peeling/bubbling of interior surfaces.

  • Question: What are the most common causes of water leaks in RVs and vintage trailers?
    • Answer: The most frequent causes are failed or degraded sealants around exterior components like roof vents, skylights, air conditioners, windows, doors, and body seams. Age, UV exposure, and movement during travel can cause these seals to crack or pull away.

  • Question: How long does a professional water leak repair typically take?
    • Answer: The time needed to repair a water leak varies depending on the number of leaks, their location, and how difficult they are to access and properly seal. Simple resealing might take a few hours, while tracking down multiple elusive leaks or accessing difficult areas could take longer.

  • Question: How much does water leak repair cost?
    • Answer: The cost of water leak repair depends on the number of leaks, their source, location, and the extent of any existing water damage. Simple resealing is less expensive than repairing damage caused by a long-term leak. We provide a detailed quote after a thorough inspection.

  • Question: If a leak has already caused damage (like floor rot), is that repaired as part of the leak repair service?
    • Answer: Our primary water leak repair service focuses on finding and fixing the source of the leak to prevent further water intrusion. If water damage like floor rot or wall decay has already occurred, repairing that damage is typically a separate, more extensive restoration task. We can assess the damage and discuss those repair options with you.

  • Question: Can I just apply new sealant over the old sealant to fix a leak?
    • Answer: No, simply applying new sealant over old is not recommended and usually will not create a permanent seal. The old, failed sealant needs to be completely removed, the surface cleaned and prepared properly, and then new, compatible sealant applied directly to the clean surface for an effective and lasting repair.

Excellent customer service and quality work
We needed a few things done on our Airstream 8 years after Rodney and American Airstream rebuilt our 1960 Tradewind Landyacht. Two weeks after we brought it in, it was finished! We needed maintenance with a new rubber roof, switched out our sink from a double to single, and a few other things. We even got a wash and wax due to the dust storms that had come through in the time we had it with Rodney. Thank you!!
What an awesome Airstream maintenance experience with Rodney & his son, Scott! We are one year Airstreamers, so we decided to take our Aistream to Rodney after passing this place all the time on our way to Waco. They fixed all of our little things as we were preparing for the 1st summer road trip. The price was just right, and we had tons of other questions for them. They gladly answered them. Then, to top it off, we arrived in New Orleans & I had to call Rodney & get more assistance. He told me not to worry and told me the correct button to push. We will never go anywhere else but American Vintage Trailers for all of our RV needs & will tell family & friends too. THANK YOU Rodney & Scott! OJ/Jamie
We had some plumbing and small repairs done to our 1965 Tradewind. Mr Bond and his son were great. They expressed sincere caring about what we wanted and provided excellent communication during the process. We were provided with a detailed invoice and a walk through to look at the work before we left his shop. We highly recommend American Vintage Trailers to any Airsteam owner. Thank you, Mr. Bond, for the great job. We are road ready once again.
